Wireless Network  

Wireless network is a network which uses radio waves to communicate channels between the computers. Wireless means transmitting signals using radio waves instead of wires. Wireless LAN basically means Wireless Local Area Network, where a group of computers are connected together without using network cables. The computers can be joined in various ways for many purposes, but the most common is to share files and share an internet connection.

Wireless LAN can operate in the infrastructure mode which connects wirelessly to wireless network devices within a fixed range or area of coverage and this access point has one or more antennas that allow you to interact with wireless nodes. Wireless telecommunications networks are generally implemented and administered at the physical level of the network structure.

Types of wireless networks

1. Wireless PAN (Personal Area Networks)

2. Wireless LAN (Local Area Network)

3. Wireless mesh network

4. Wireless MAN (Metropolitan Area Networks)

5. Wireless WAN (Wide Area Network)

6. Cellular network


Advantages and Dis- Advantages of Wireless Networks


1. Flexible to use if there is ad-hoc place when extra workstation was required.

2. Cost of implementation is lower.

3. Ideal for the non-reachable places such as across river or mountain or rural area.

4. Ideal for provisional network setups.


1. Compared to wired network it offers lower speed.

2. Less secured.

3. More complicated to design than wired network.
