Textile Engineering is a branch of engineering which deals with designing and manufacturing of textile fabrics and also deals with the study of chemical and physical principles which are utilized for the analysis of the behavior of polymers involved in the formation of all kinds of textile fabric and yarns from textile fibers. Textile Engineering also includes mechanical, electrical, industrial and chemical engineering aspects. Textile engineering is concerned with the application of scientific principles and engineering practices to the wide-ranging aspects of textile processes, products and machinery, including synthetic fibers, interactions of fibers and fabrics, safety and health, pollution control and energy management.

Textile engineering is an innovative field. It involves the creative research, study and exploration of new techniques for production and improvisation. Textile Engineering consists of two sectors handloom sector and the mechanized sector which plays important role and it includes with the knowledge of the behavior of textile materials and the functions of machinery in textile and clothing technologies.

Textile Engineers are employed in Textile Industries, Garment Factories, textile plants and companies varying from small to large scale .Engineers are involved in planning department, production department, quality control and sales or marketing department. Textile engineers work closely with chemical engineers to develop new materials for a variety of purposes. Engineers work is designing and manufacturing of fabrics. Engineers work as a Researcher, Technologist, Process Engineer, Operations Trainee, Technical Salesperson and Development Engineer.
