Systems Programming deals with design and architecture of the applications and services that make up an operating system and activity of programming system software. Systems programming produce software which provides services to the computer hardware and Systems programming covers data and program management, including operating systems, control programs, network software, and database management systems.

System programmer plays a central role in designing and developing the software and installs, customizes, and maintains the operating system, and also upgrades products that run on the system. System programmers are needed to install and maintain the middleware on the mainframe, such as database management systems, online transaction processing systems and Web servers. System programmer expertise mainly in the mainframe hardware and software areas


Some tasks of System programmer are

1.Training system operators and application programmers

2.Automating operations

3.Capacity planning

4.Running installation jobs and scripts

5.Performing installation-specific customization tasks

6.Planning hardware and software system upgrades and changes in configuration

7.Integration-testing the new products with existing applications and user procedures

8.System-wide performance tuning to meet required levels of service
