Statistics is a branch of mathematics which deals with the science of presenting, analyzing, collecting, organizing, and interpreting numerical data to assist in making more effective decisions. Statistics provides ways to design efficient experiments that eliminate time-consuming trial and error.

Statistics refers to numerical information examples like the average starting salary of college graduates, the number of deaths due to alcoholism last year. Statistical techniques are used extensively in marketing, accounting, quality control, professional sports people, hospital administrators, physician etc.
