Power System Engineering  

Power system Engineering is the technical discipline applied to designing the electric power system for high power electric utility applications as well as industrial and commercial power distribution systems. Power system engineering is concerned with energy engineering which consists of generation, transmission, distribution of electric power.

Generation deals with generation of electrical power through various means like thermal power generation, hydroelectric power generation and power generation from renewable energy resources like solar, wind, geothermal etc. Transmission this section deals with transmission of electric power from generating stations to receiving substations through interconnected system of grid. Distribution deals with electric power. Electric power from receiving substation is send out to distribution substations where electric power is stepped down to suitable voltage level for distribution as required and it is supplied to consumers.

Power engineers may work on the design and maintenance of power systems. Power engineers are involved in designing transformers, electric generators, electric motors and power electronics.
