Petroleum Engineering is a branch of engineering which deals with extraction of Crude oil and Natural gas which deposits below the earth’s surface. Petroleum engineers search the world for reservoirs containing oil or natural gas. Engineers design equipment and processes to achieve the maximum profitable recovery of oil and gas. Petroleum Engineering consists two parts Upstream Sector and Downstream Sector. The upstream sector consists of activities like exploration, production and exploitation of oil and natural gases. The downstream sector consist activities such as the refining, marketing and distributing of petroleum products.

Plastic Engineering encompasses the processing, design, development and manufacture of plastics products and Plastics materials derived from polymers. Engineers in this field design new plastics, refine old designs and study the properties of plastics to find new applications. Plastic engineering technologist can be involved in the development, design, analysis, planning, supervision or construction of the methods and equipment for the production goods. Other properties that the plastics engineer has to address include thermal properties such as, electrical properties, barrier properties and resistance to chemical attack.

Petroleum Engineers are employed in Government and private oil companies, Industries. Petroleum engineers spend their careers searching for reservoirs of oil and developing methods to efficiently extract it from the earth without damaging the surrounding environment. Petroleum engineer might be working on a team with geologists and contractors developing a design for a new drilling operation. Petroleum engineers generally work in offices or in research laboratories.


Plastic Engineers are employed in private and multinational companies which are engaged in the production and marketing of plastic goods. Graduates in this field can find employment in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Oil and Natural Gas Commission, Oil India laboratories, Petrochemicals Engineering plants. Plastic engineers are involved in research and development, processing quality control, technical support and sales, design and manufacture. Engineers also join as a lecturer in a college or university.
