Nutrition and Dietetics is the science of managing food and nutrition to promote health. Nutrition is the process in which you consume food to digest, absorb them and use them for health, growth and totally it is a science of food in relation to health. Nutrition is a source of materials to nourish the body. Nutrition explains the physiologic and metabolic responses of a human body to diet.

Nutrients in the food we take consist of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fat and water. Imbalance in nutrients causes ill health from excess or deficiency in any one particular nutrient that in turn affects the functionality of the body. Nutritionists create and apply scientific knowledge to promote an understanding of the effects of diet on health and wellbeing of humans and animals. Graduates of Nutrition are known as nutritionists and Nutritionists educate their clients about preparation of food according to the principles of nutrition.

 

Dietetics is the science and art of feeding individuals based on the principles of nutrition. Dietitians use their scientific knowledge to provide practical information that is appropriate to the patient's medical history and lifestyle. Dietetics involves the application of nutrition science and so all dietetic courses must include the study of nutrition. Nutrition is a science developed due to its importance for sports performance. It was considered to be important for the health and performance of athletes and sportsmen.

 

Nutrition is a study of the relationship between the diets of a person and the resulting health or disease. Diet plays a major role in promotion of health and well-being of individual. Dietetics is related to food management and Nutrition is related to promotion of health.

 

Employment

Nutrition & Diet graduates are employed in government hospitals, government's health department, school, colleges, factories and office cafeterias for planning nutritional regiment, health promotion and education, Organizations involved in food product manufacture use the services of the nutritionist or dietician to plan and research new products. They form a vital part of the health team.
