Network administrator is a professional responsible for the maintenance of computer hardware and software that comprises a computer network. Network Administrator work includes deployment, configuration, maintenance , monitoring of active network equipment, network security, installing new hardware and applications, monitoring software upgrades and daily activity, enforcing licensing agreements, developing a storage management program and providing for routine backups.

Network Administrator install, support an organization’s computer systems, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), network segments, intranets, and other data communication systems.


Some Tasks of Network Administrator

1. Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including     computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.

2. Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.

3. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system     problems, and replace defective components when necessary.

4. Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and     hardware.

5. Configure, monitor, and maintain email applications or virus protection software.

6. Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks,     and to coordinate computer network access and use.

7. Monitor network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to     determine where changes will need to be made in the future.

8. Confer with network users about how to solve existing system problems.

 

Responsibilities and Duties of Network Administrator

1. Install all network hardware and software and make needed upgrades and repairs

2. Maintain network and computer system security and ensure that all systems are operating     correctly

3. Collect data to evaluate the network’s or system’s performance and help make the system     work better and faster

4. Solve problems quickly when a user or an automated monitoring system lets them know     about a problem

 

Courses and Eligibility

1. Student must pass higher secondary education or 10+2 with science subjects to get     admission into bachelor’s degree program.

2. B.sc in Computers.

3. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Application.

4. B.E in computer science or Information Science.

5. B.Tech in Computer Applications.

6. MCA in Computers.

7. M.Tech in Computers

 

Employment

Network Administrators are employed in IT companies, industries, including educational institutions, hospitals, banks, large corporations, and government agencies.
