Medical equipments are those which are used in Treatment, Monitoring, Surgery and Diagnosis of the patients. Most medical equipment is supported by electricity this type of equipment is called as medical electrical equipment. The division between medical equipment and medical electrical equipment is not always same, sometimes different versions of equipment exist, Where some are electrically powered and others are manually powered. Medical equipment designed according to strict rules of safety. Professionals who operate medical equipment are known as medical equipment technician. They are trained well how to run, repair and given responsibility for various types of machinery.

Basic Types of Medical Equipments


Diagnostic equipment: medical imaging devices used to support the diagnosis. There are ultrasounds, MRIs, CAT scans, PET scans, and X-ray machines.

Therapeutic equipment: infusion pumps, medical lasers and LASIK surgical devices. Equipment used to maintain vital bodily functions of the patient: medical ventilator, iron lung, ECMO, and dialysis unit.

Medical monitor that allow the medical team to measure the patient’s medical conditions. This includes the measurement of the ECG, EEG, blood pressure and blood gas blood.

Life support equipment is used to maintain a patient's bodily function. This includes medical ventilators, anesthetic machines, heart-lung machines, ECMO, and dialysis machines.

A biomedical equipment technician is a vital component of the healthcare delivery system.

ECG a machine used in hospitals to rate of heart beating. The picture it shows or prints is also called an ECG.

Scanner a piece of equipment that is used for producing a picture of the inside part of body for a medical examination.

Technicians use a variety of hand tools, electronic tools and computers to keep the equipment in top working order. Most of the medical equipment repair technicians have degree in biomedical technology or biomedical engineering.
