Machinist

Person, who repairs, operates and makes the Machinery tools especially a skilled operator of machine tools is known as a Machinist. Machinist uses lathes, milling machines, and machining centers, to produce precision metal parts and the process is known as machining. Most common materials used by machinist to make parts are steel, aluminum, brass, copper, vanadium, zinc, lead, or manganese and various alloys of these materials. Machinist deals with all facets of shaping, cutting and some aspects of forming metal, although forming is typically a separate trade and the operations most commonly performed by machinists are milling, drilling, turning, and grinding.

Machinists detect problems by listening to specific sounds for example, a dull cutting tool or excessive vibration. Some machinists often called as production machinists, produce large quantities of metal parts, especially parts requiring the use of complex operations and great precision. Machinists set up and operate a variety of computer-controlled or mechanically-controlled machine tools to produce precision metal parts, instruments, and tools.

Tools of Machinist

1.Measuring tools such as Comparison tools, Direct reading tools, Micrometer tools,    Indicator tools and Electronic measuring tools.

2.Hand tools.

3.Machine tools such as Drilling machines, milling machines, turning machines, grinding    machines.

4.Work holders.

5.Tool holders.

6.Cutting tools.

Employment

Machinists work in small machining shops, tool rooms, factory floor in manufacturing industries, such as machinery manufacturing and transportation equipment manufacturing, and machinists work in most industries that use production machinery.
