Logarithm

Logarithms are mathematical functions. Logarithm is defined by y=logb X if and only if by=X. Logarithmic equations contain logarithmic expressions and constants, one side of the equation contains a single logarithm and the other side contains a constant. Logarithms appear in all sorts of calculations in engineering and science, business and economics. Logarithms are used in many areas of science and engineering in which quantities vary over a large range in decibel scale for the loudness of sound, the Richter scale of earthquake magnitudes, and the astronomical scale of stellar brightness are all logarithmic scales.

The logarithm is most useful arithmetic concept in all the sciences and an understanding of them is essential to an understanding of many scientific ideas. Logarithmic and exponential functions are very important since many physical and biological processes can be described by them. Properties of logarithms basically change multiplication into addition, division into subtraction, exponent into multiplication and radical into division. Logarithms identities are Product, quotient, power and root.
