Geometry

Geometry is a Greek word, “Geo” means earth and “metro” means measure. Geometry is a field in mathematics which deals with the study of shapes, angles, triangles, volume, size, points, dimensions, length, width, line, and the properties of space such as perimeter and area. Geometry is used for surveying, astronomy, navigation and building. It shows the direct correlation between shapes and mathematics. Everything we see every day in our lives is concerned with geometry itself, Such as drinking water in cylindrical shapes materials, eating in circles, writing on a rectangular surface etc. A mathematician who works in the field of geometry is called a geometer.

Geometry is so important because it gives us a better understanding of the space and concept of space all around us. It also allows us to comprehend our surroundings in a mathematical sense .Geometry holds a great deal of importance in fields such as engineering and architecture. Geometry can be used in a wide array of scientific and technical field.

Terms of geometry

1. Point

2. Line

3. Line Segment

4. Ray

5. Angle

6. Plane

Geometry is divided into Two Parts :

1. Plane Geometry is about flat shapes like lines, circles and triangles.

2. Solid Geometry is about three dimensional objects like cubes, prisms and pyramids.

Courses and Eligibility

1.Student must pass higher secondary education or 10+2 with science subjects to get    admission into bachelor’s degree program.

2. B.Sc. in Mathematics

3. M.Sc. in Mathematics

4. Ph.D. in Mathematics

Employment

Graduates of Geometry (Mathematics) are employed in schools, university, colleges, Banks, research institutions, private and government engineering colleges, financial services companies and research labs of multinational companies. Geometry helps to develop logical reasoning, Architects and engineers use geometry in planning buildings, bridges and roads. Geometry is used by navigators to guide boats, planes, and even space ships. Military personnel use geometry to guide vessels and aim guns and missiles. Almost everything you do in your daily life involves geometry in some way. Geometry (Mathematics) has best career opportunities in India.
