Fire Engineering is an engineering which consists of principles and rules based on an understanding of the phenomena and effects of fire to protect people, property and the environment from the destructive effects of fire and smoke. It is also defined as the art and science of designing buildings and facilities for life safety and property protection in the event of an unwanted fire. Fire Engineering is becoming world's one of the noblest profession by virtue of its growing role in saving life and property. A fire engineer gets the knowledge of the nature and characteristics of fire and the mechanisms of fire spread and the control of fire and the associated products of combustion, understands how fires originate and so on.

Earthquake Engineering is an engineering which deals with the study of Earthquake Hazards (Damage, Risk) and also study of structures and geo- structures. Earthquake engineering is concerned with the design and construction of all kinds of civil and building engineering systems to withstand earthquake shaking. Earthquake engineering covers the investigation and solution of the problems created by damaging earthquakes. Earthquake Engineering is an interdisciplinary study area and involves study of civil engineering, geophysics, soil sciences, mathematics, statistics, weather sciences and many other study disciplines including computer sciences and Internet technologies.

 

Specialty areas of Fire and Earthquake Engineering

Employment

Fire Engineers are employed in Fire Service in the government or public sector, educational institutions, consulting firms and government bodies around the world. Fire engineers are called upon to assess the extent of the damage, investigate the cause of the fire. Fire engineers are also employed in large manufacturing organizations like petroleum refineries, petrochemicals and plastic industries, Fertilizers industries, Textiles industries, LPG, chemicals industries and other plants.


Earthquake Engineers are employed government and private agencies engaged in construction of buildings, railways, highways, ports, bridges and space stations. Earthquake engineers find work opportunities as lecturers, professors and researchers. Engineers are involved in planning, designing, construction and manage earthquake resistant structures and facilities.
