ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning. ERP is a software system driven process of managing all resources, and their use, in an enterprise in a coordinated manner and it is business management software that allows an organization to use a system of integrated applications to manage the business. ERP solution consists of functional modules such as planning and forecasting, purchasing, inventory, production, sales, finance, and human resources. ERP systems can run on a variety of computer hardware and network configurations, typically employing a database as a repository for information.

ERP systems form the information management backbone for companies of all sizes and in all industries. ERP software and system implementation varies from company to company based on the size and needs of an organization. ERP solution components include Transactional database, Management portal/dashboard, and Business intelligence system, External access via technology such as web services, Document management and Workflow management. The ERP market for large enterprises is dominated by three companies SAP, Oracle and Microsoft.
