Cosmetology is an art or profession of applying cosmetics it is a field encompasses several occupations, including hairstylist, hairdresser, shampooer, barber, skin care specialist and nail technician. Cosmetology is all about the study and application of beauty treatment. The field includes a wide range of body pampering and beauty treatments for men, women, and children.


Professional in this field is known as cosmetologist, who performs manicures, pedicures, hair cutting, hair styling, shampooing, makeup, or other cosmetology services.

Some specialties in Cosmetology include


Nail technicians those who perform manicures, pedicures, polishing, and nail extensions.


Estheticians skin care specialists, they cleanse skin, give facials, full-body skin treatments, apply Makeup, and perform laser treatments.


Makeup artists those who apply makeup to enhance a person’s appearance. Can work on theatrical and performance makeup to enhance artist’s appearance for stage, movie, and television performances.


Shampooers work shampooing and conditioning hair.


Hairstyliststhose who color, perm, cut, and style hair.

 

Basic skills of cosmetology including:

1. Cutting and styling hair

2. Coloring, bleaching, and highlighting hair

3. Applying chemical perms to hair

4. Nail care and grooming

5. Skin care and make-up application

6. Hair removal methods

7. Use and care of instruments

8. Sanitation and hygiene

9. Relevant chemistry, anatomy, and physiology

10. Recognition of common skin diseases

 

Courses and Eligibility

1. Training programs in hairstyling and cosmetology (9months).

2. Courses for a cosmetologist degree can include hair cutting, styling, coloring, and     permanent waving, as well as manicures and pedicures, facials, makeup application,     shampooing, nail technology, and more.

 

Employment

Graduates are employed in industry as beauty magazine editors or consultants, cosmetics industry, fashion consultants, film industries, one can setup their own business, and some cosmetologists teach in cosmetology school, beauty school, or Cosmetology College.
