Computer Engineering is an engineering deal with elements from both electrical engineering and computer science and combining the principle and techniques of these two for the making and development of computer and computer-based systems. Computer Engineering involves designing and testing of computer components and this is a field of engineering not only focuses on how computer systems themselves work, but also on how they integrate into the larger system. Compute engineering involved in many hardware and software aspects of computing, from the design of individual Microprocessors, Personal computers and Supercomputers to Circuit designing.

 

Computer engineering involved in many hardware and software aspects of computing, from the design of individual Microprocessors, Personal computers and Supercomputers to Circuit designing. Professionals who work with computer hardware and software are termed as Computer Engineers who apply their knowledge of mathematics and science for the design and development of a computer.

Students studying computer engineering may choose to focus on specialty areas including artificial intelligence (intelligent systems for applications such as robotics, reasoning, computer vision), computer systems (the design and analysis of computers, computer architecture, computer networks and integrated circuits).


There are two major specialties in computer engineering

 

Computer Software Engineering

Computer software engineers design, develop and test software. Some software engineers design, construct and maintain computer programs for companies. Others make or install new software or upgrade computer systems. Computer software engineers can also work in application design. This involves designing or coding new programs and applications to meet the needs of a business or individual.


Computer Hardware Engineering

Computer hardware engineers research, develop, design and test various computer equipment. This can range from circuit boards and microprocessors to routers. Most computer hardware engineers work in research laboratories and high-tech manufacturing firms.

Employment

Computer engineering is one of the good fields on which remarkable careers can be carved. Computer engineering is turning out to be quite a feasible one due to its wonderful prospects. Hence, many students are likely to have the desire to base themselves in this field. Jobs in computer engineering are many due to India now being an IT hub in terms of the number of companies that it has. Hence, there are many types of jobs that are available in India.

 

Graduates are employed in IT companies, research, private and public industries, government departments, business organizations, commercial organizations and the manufacturing sector. Graduates are involved in design, development and maintenance of software and are engaged in analyzing problems for solutions, formulating and testing, using advanced communications or multi-media equipment or working in teams for product development. They work as a Software/ Hardware Engineer, programmers, web developers and E- commerce specialists and many more.
