Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is an engineering which deals with the construction of buildings, designing structures and maintenance of the built environment. Civil Engineers are concerned with all types of structures including dams, bridges, pipelines, roads, towers and buildings. They are responsible for the design and construction of all our transport systems. Civil Engineers plan, design and test the structures of private and public buildings and facilities. Civil engineers may specialize as chief civil engineers, construction engineers, municipal engineers, structural engineers, transport engineers.

Basically civil engineers build physical infrastructure and structures. A civil engineer who specializes in the design of buildings is called a structural engineer. A civil engineer who specializes in roads, drainage and earthworks is called a civil engineer. Due to increase in the scope of civil engineering with the passage of time, it has now divided into many branches of study. Some of the significant ones include structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, hydraulic engineering and environmental engineering.

Specialty areas of Civil Engineering

1. Construction Management

2. Environmental Engineering

3. Geotechnical Engineering

4. Structural Engineering

5. Surveying

6. Transportation Engineering

7. Water Resources Engineering

8. Coastal Engineering

9. Atmospheric sciences

10.Forensic Engineering

Civil Engineers are working in many different sites including Government sector, Private Business and IT industries. Civil engineers may work in the private sector as consulting engineers, project managers, and construction contractors or in a wide range of government departments. Civil Engineers are employed by a wide range of companies in all Countries, from small startup businesses focused on a new invention idea to large-scale companies that work on immense contracts.
