Algebra

Algebra is a branch of mathematics in which arithmetical operations are generalized by using alphabetic symbols to represent unknown numbers. Algebra deals with properties of operations and the structures of these operations and it is about putting real life problems into equations and then solving them. Algebra is designed to solve certain types of problems quicker and easier and it includes real numbers, complex numbers, matrices, vectors etc. In Algebra we use letters like x or y and other general symbols are used to represent numbers and quantities in formulae and equations.

Algebra refers elementary algebra which is mostly occupied with solving simple equations, Generally the term algebra encompasses many other fields of mathematics such as geometry, analysis, topology, and number theory. Algebra develops your thinking, specifically logic, patterns, problem solving, deductive and inductive reasoning.

Example of Algebra

1. Consider equation x + 4 = 7

2. X is unknown. We have to find the value of X=?

3. We can find the value of "x" by subtracting 4 from both sides of the equal sign (=)

4. Start with: x + 4 = 7

5. Subtract 4 from both sides: x + 4 - 4= 7 - 4

6. Calculate: x + 0 = 3

7. Answer: x = 3
