Civil engineering deal with the construction of buildings, designing structures and maintenance of the built environment and it includes all types of structures such as dams, bridges, pipelines, roads, towers and buildings. Civil Engineers plan, design and test the structures of private and public buildings and facilities.


Basically civil engineers build physical infrastructure and structures. Civil engineer is responsible for planning and designing a project, constructing the project to the required scale, and maintenance of the product. Due to increase in the scope of civil engineering with the passage of time, it has now divided into many branches of study. Some of the significant ones include structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, hydraulic engineering and environmental engineering.

Graduates are employed in broad range of industries including construction, manufacturing and engineering, local government, Civil Service, electricity and water supply or the shipbuilding, telecommunications and broadcasting industries. Graduates are involved in creating design, plans for buildings and machinery.
